An underground electrical fire on West 52nd Street caused the cancellation of both the April 6 evening performance and now the April 7 matinee of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys. The fire, which was not connected to the August Wilson Theatre, caused the northern end of the theater district to be packed with fire engines and emergency personnel at the end of the workday on April 6.
According to a statement issued at 12:30pm on April 7, "The Jersey Boys producers have been notified by the authorities that it will not be possible to have a performance this afternoon. The problem should be solved this afternoon to make sure there is a performance tonight."
West 52nd Street is home to two Broadway houses, August Wilson Theatre and the Neil Simon Theatre, which is currently dark. Also on the block is Roseland Ballroom, where a concert by Thom Yorke and Atoms for Peace proceeded at 10pm when audience members entered via an entrance on 53rd Street.
Ticketholders to canceled performances should contact the point of purchase for refund information.
